Zusammen mit einer anderen Figur (Engel mit Viola, Inv. Nr. 7648) formt dieser Engel ein Paar. Die raffinierten Skulpturen stammen vermutlich aus einer Darstellung mit einer Muttergottes in ihrer Mitte. Die Andachtsliteratur des späten Mittelalters schildert anschaulich, wie Engel das Christuskind im Paradies mit Musik verehren.
