Beschreibung
During the Tang period the popularity of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara increased enormously and no other Buddhist deity was the subject of so many works of art. This small, gilded statuette is similar to others in the collection made out of bronze (e.g. III 6124). They were probably brought along the pilger routes from Central China. Avalokiteshvara stands in a graceful pose on a stepped lotus pedestal, the lotus in his right hand, the flask in his left. Ribbons fall from his crown.
