Das augenscheinlich von großer persönlicher Zuneigung geprägte, die französische Porträtästhetik der Jahrhundertmitte tradierende, charmante Doppelbildnis schenkte Anton Graff im März 1794 dem befreundeten Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki.
