This portrait dating from 1656 has all the typical features of Hals’s late work: the subject is uncommunicative, in a distant and self-absorbed pose. The composition suggests that the artist is concentrating on conveying a thoughtful expression. The strongly lit face is more strongly modelled than the robe.| Prestel Museum Guides - Gemäldegalerie Berlin, 2017 SIGNATUR / INSCHRIFT: F.
