Die Darstellung einer stehenden Jungfrau mit Kind war in Florenz der Renaissance nicht sehr gebräuchlich. Anstatt der innigen Verbindung zwischen Mutter und Kind wird die Hoheit der Jungfrau Maria hervorgehoben, wie der strenge Ausdruck ihres Gesichtes zeigt. Die Haltung des Kindes ist etwas unnatürlich für ein Kleinkind, denn es ist ein direktes Zitat antiker Skulptur.

Representing a standing Virgin and Child was not so common in Renaissance Florence. Rather than the intimacy between mother and child, the majesty of the Virgin Mary is stressed, as confirmed by the severe look on her face. The pose of the child is somewhat unnatural for a baby as it is a direct citation from Antique sculpture.
